Wool
Extrafine Merino wool
Our relationship with wool dates back to ancient times, to 6000 BC Merino Wool is originally bred in Spain, and then spread exceptionally in Australia from 1797, where it finds the ideal environment.
Merino Wool is a product of natural origin, biodegradable with low environmental impact (in fact the wool is keratin, like the hair, once it is disused it is perfectly eco-compatible).
One of its main features is breathability that allows you to stay cool even in summer.
It absorbs and easily dissipates moisture, so it is very helpful for those who sweat a lot.
It adapts to sensitive skin and is a natural antibacterial that provides protection and no smells, also provides a natural protection from UV rays.
The finest wool comes from the fleece of merino sheep that are shorn each year and the fleeces obtained have fine and very curled fibres, ideal for clothing.
One of the finest yarns is extrafine wool, normally about 15% of annual production; it reaches an average fineness of less than 19.5 microns, (thousandths of a millimeter) necessary to be extrafine.
The most important parameters for classifying wools are: fineness, length, cleanliness, strength, very limited presence of short fibres, uniformity of length and fineness, color, absence of impurities, style. The Fineness of the fibre is the parameter that synthetically demonstrates the quality for the final consumer.
The fineness is the expression of the average diameter of the fibre. The unit of measurement recognized is the micron (μ), that is one thousandth of a millimeter.
Merino Wool has natural fibres that are among the most beautiful, thin, soft and with natural elasticity that allows to keep the garments always in shape.
Merino wool used Virgin Merino wool, used by our artisan producer of Brescia for the realization of our sock, are derived from the shearing of merino sheep, especially from Australia and New Zealand. An eco-compatible product naturally wool, anti mites and bacteria. There are lots also coming from South Africa, South America, USA. The wool releases beneficial properties of the human body, protecting it like a second skin.
Merino Extrafine wool is a unique 100% natural product:
– it is hygroscopic:
– it absorbs the humidity with which it comes in contact, bringing it outwards, where it evaporates leaving us dry. The lanolin contained in the wool guarantees maximum protection.
– it is heat regulator:
– it does not heat up, it is insulating so it simply keeps body temperature and avoids temperature changes
– It is breathable:
– it does not oppress the skin, but lets it breathe; to the touch it is soft, pleasant to wear;
– it is water repellent:
– it rejects water;
– the structure and the pattern of the hairs prevent the accumulation, at their base, of dust and dirt. Lanolin creates a hostile environment for dust mites, making it self-cleaning by nature;
Merino wool protects from the cold and humidity that cause the spread of rheumatic and arthritic
diseases in general, moreover, it is an effective natural adjuvant in case of inflammation and pain.
It does not irritate the skin and protects from bad smells thanks to its natural antibacterial properties.
How to wash Merino wool
Hand or machine washing is preferable, especially hand washing.
Hand washing is essentially a slow soak for ten minutes followed by a rinsing in warm water. To eliminate excess water, roll the garment into a towel and press gently to absorb. Then, using a fresh towel, lay it flat, preferably in the sun. After the washing machine, gently shake and remodel and arrange the surface to dry.
In case of staining, immediately apply a solvent-based removal device such as eucalyptus oil. Apply in small quantities, working inwards on the stain to prevent it from spreading.
Washing clothes outside will help prevent the formation of pilling, in any case if they were to form pilling, in a short time the wool has the property to remove them without problems. When you do not wear your woolen clothes, always fold them to keep them in shape.
